Start with your safety and the full sequence of events
If a car, truck, bicycle or e-bike struck you, explain both the contact and any fall that followed. Did you land on your side, brace with an arm or strike your head? Serious or uncertain injuries need medical assessment first. If you were seen at a hospital, follow discharge instructions and bring the records when discussing follow-up care.
Walking, crossing and parking-lot incidents
Tell us whether you were in a crosswalk, on a sidewalk, passing a driveway or moving through a parking area. These are details for your history, not a determination of right of way or fault. Our clinical record describes your account, examination and care recommendations. Police, insurers and attorneys have different roles in investigating the accident and handling legal questions.
Wheelchairs and mobility scooters
Please tell our team about your usual mobility, transfer needs and any assistance required for a visit. Describe what changed from your baseline after the impact, including transfers, sitting tolerance and use of an arm or leg. We can discuss whether our office can accommodate the evaluation you need; we do not assume all equipment users have the same needs or promise accessibility features that have not been confirmed.
Hit by a bicycle or e-bike rather than a car
Make that distinction clear when you call. The same auto-insurance assumptions do not apply to every sidewalk or shared-path collision. Keep the other person’s information and any incident report available. Ask the relevant insurer or attorney about the claim, and ask our team about available billing arrangements. Treatment recommendations are based on your findings, not on which party may pay.
PIP questions for pedestrians struck by motor vehicles
Massachusetts law includes certain pedestrians struck by an insured motor vehicle within PIP protection. Eligibility still depends on the facts and applicable requirements; this is not a promise of payment. Provide the vehicle and claim details, your own available insurance information and any coverage letters. For questions about disability status, work-related incidents or disputed eligibility, have the insurer or your legal adviser review the details.
An individual evaluation, including your prior mobility
Dr. Cordima asks how you moved and functioned before the event and what is different now. Bring a medication list and relevant records, along with any restrictions from other clinicians. We may discuss an examination for accident-related neck, back or joint concerns, further medical evaluation or a different care setting. There is no single treatment schedule for everyone who was hit by a vehicle.
