ACCIDENT INJURY EVALUATION · SOMERVILLE, MA

Bicycle and e-bike injuries: more than one way to get hurt.

Hit by a car, doored beside a parked vehicle or hurt in a solo fall? The event, the bike and your symptoms all deserve a careful look.

The first impact may not be the whole story

A bicycle collision can involve a vehicle, a door, the road surface and an outstretched arm in the same event. Describe the sequence as clearly as you can. Tell us whether your head struck anything and whether you were assessed at a hospital or urgent-care center. Neck or back discomfort should not distract from a hand, shoulder, knee or other injury that needs separate attention.

Dooring and parked-car incidents

Tell us which side of the bicycle was struck, whether you fell and where you landed. Explain whether the door was opening as you passed or whether a maneuver to avoid it led to a fall. We record your account and clinical findings; we do not assign legal fault. Keep available vehicle, witness and incident-report information for the insurer or attorney handling those questions.

A solo fall is a different insurance question

A bicycle crash without a motor vehicle should not be presented as automatically covered by auto PIP. Bring your health insurance information and ask about your specific benefits and fees. If another vehicle was involved, provide that information even if there was no direct contact, and let the insurer review the facts. We do not guarantee payment based on how the crash is described.

Standard bicycles and e-bikes need clear identification

Massachusetts PIP law includes bicycle operators in its definition of pedestrian, but that does not settle every e-bike claim. Provide the bike’s make, model, motor assistance and any classification information you have. Do not assume a modified e-bike, moped and ordinary bicycle have identical coverage. Our team can ask for billing information; the insurer or legal adviser must address disputed classifications and benefits.

Focus on function before returning to cycling

Tell Dr. Cordima whether gripping handlebars, looking over a shoulder, reaching or walking causes difficulty. Bring any restrictions from the clinicians who first evaluated you. If care here is suitable, recommendations should follow your findings and progress rather than a preset number of visits. Do not use this page as clearance to ride in traffic while symptoms or other medical concerns remain.

Your questions, answered.

Can I be evaluated after a bicycle accident even if a car was not involved?

Call to discuss your symptoms, previous medical evaluation and payment options. Clinical suitability and insurance coverage are separate questions.

Is a headache after a bike fall just a neck problem?

Do not assume that. Tell a medical professional about the fall, any head impact and symptoms such as dizziness, nausea or trouble concentrating. Concussion and other injuries need appropriate medical assessment.

YOUR SOMERVILLE OFFICE

Clear findings. A personal next step.

Dr. Christopher Cordima, DC, BCN, has been practicing since 1988 and is Board Certified in Chronic Intractable Pain & Neuropathy. Your visit begins with your history and an examination. Depending on your findings, that may include neurological testing and a review of whether imaging or another medical evaluation is needed.

If care here is appropriate, we explain the options and costs before you decide. We do not promise a particular result or recovery time. With your permission, our team can coordinate relevant records with your attorney.
